For consumers who use ostomy supplies and may need home health care, below is a self-advocacy tool so that you know what to expect and what to do when receiving medical care in your home:
Note: As a stakeholder in the Access and Care Coalition, UOAA worked closely with the home health subgroup to create this tool.
UOAA is proud to partner and work alongside with the American Association for Homecare (AAHomecare) advocating for Home Medical Equipment (HME) such as ostomy and urologic supplies. UOAA encourages the ostomy and continent diversion communities to visit their web page with information on homecare, HME’s role, and ways individuals can self-advocate for policies that protect access to care.
You are also welcome to submit your #WhyHomecareMatters story and share your personal experience here as they continue to make mini-documentaries such as the powerful 4.5-minute mini-documentary about Brandon, a young professional and quadriplegic who relies on home medical equipment to live life on his own terms. His story is one of millions, including yours, that showcase the impact of home-based care.
